Our Story

ENC Farmhouse Furniture was founded in 2020 by a couple of newlyweds living in Jacksonville, NC. Matthew was stationed at Camp Lejeune as an Active Duty Marine. 

The young couple had just purchased a home and wanted to furnish it with farmhouse style furniture. The only problem...it was expensive! Matthew began teaching himself how to build furniture through hours of research, trial and error, and watching lots of Youtube videos of other seasoned woodworkers for inspiration.

He used the few tools he had to build the first piece of furniture, a barn door. After that, Matthew moved on to building an end table, a tv stand, and so on!

He decided that this could be a small business venture that others in the area might be interested in. They built and listed a few extra pieces on Facebook Marketplace. Almost instantly, people began showing interest and placing orders.

The business took off from there...

ENC Farmhouse is Veteran and family owned.  The small business is run entirely out of the Gernoske's home office and garage.

Along with his full time military career, Matthew's afternoons and weekends are devoted to ENC Farmhouse. Emily helps with smaller projects and does all the marketing, social media exposure, and vendor event preparation.  

After selling those first few pieces on Facebook Marketplace back in 2020, ENC Farmhouse began getting repeat customers and referrals. Emily made a business page on Facebook called "ENC Farmhouse Furniture" and started posting about their products and their family. As business grew, Emily created a website, Instagram page, and Google profile. 

Family, friends, and past clients have grown the business and brand by sharing social posts and ordering custom pieces. 

2022 was not only a huge year of growth for business, it also brought a new addition to the family! Camille has already become an integral part of the business. Because of her, Emily has ventured into products geared towards children and their parents. 

ENC Farmhouse is headed towards a one stop shop for all things custom. If you can dream it, we can build it!

ENC Farmhouse is a small business and the Gernoskes will always opt to be an affordable option for customers. Matthew and Emily are continuously working towards finding new ways to expand their business and offer new products, while keeping the same reasonable price tag. 

Since founding this business, they have invested in a Silhouette machine that makes vinyl decals, a CNC engraving machine for large wood projects, and a laser engraver for small personalized wooden pieces.

These tools allow them to produce professional and quality work, while adding a personal touch to custom pieces. The possibilities are endless!

In early 2023, Matthew received military PCS orders to Virginia Beach, VA. ENC Farmhouse has moved to Virginia! They recently rebranded by updating the logo and changing the business name to "ENC Farmhouse" since the couple offers products beyond just furniture. The Gernoskes are looking forward to the future of their business in the Hampton Roads area for the next few years.
